Clean the glass, inspect the gasket.
Clean and touch up the inside of the firebox, refresh the glowing embers, remove any dirt, dust, inspect for rust, discoloration and touch up.
Clean the outside of the firebox and valve cavity. Remove dust and pet dander.
Reassemble; bleed the gas line and ignite the fireplace.
